Overview

This spring break, travel with Boston College peers to Iceland for a transformative immersion rooted in Jesuit values. Students will be assigned to one of two unique service-learning sites based on interests and community needs:

  • In Akureyri, partner with the Salvation Army to accompany immigrant families, low-income households, and others on the margins. Practice solidarity and accompaniment by listening deeply and building relationships across cultures.

  • In Krýsuvík, join local efforts in environmental restoration—reforestation, coastal cleanup, and sustainable land use. Answer the call to care for our common home.

Regardless of location, all participants will experience:

  • Daily reflection

  • Community living that fosters mutual care and discernment

  • A renewed sense of vocation and avocation as agents of positive change

What You’ll Do

✔️ Serve with local nonprofits focused on either compassion ministry or environmental sustainability
✔️ Learn from Icelandic leaders and international volunteers about justice-centered responses to local challenges
✔️ Explore Iceland’s dramatic landscapes—from waterfalls and black sand beaches to volcanic cliffs and fjords
✔️ Engage in daily reflection, journaling, and community conversation
