Chasing the Eclipse: A Young Adult Journey to Iceland
Experience one of life’s rarest wonders—a total solar eclipse in Iceland. Join other young adults for a week of reflection, community, and service in one of the world’s most extraordinary landscapes.
Why Compass for the Eclipse
🌞 The Moment of a Lifetime
On August 12, 2026, the sky over Iceland will go dark as the moon completely covers the sun. Stars will emerge, the temperature will drop, and the solar corona will blaze around the moon. It’s an awe-inspiring, once-in-a-lifetime event.
📊 Why Iceland?
Iceland is one of the very best places on Earth to see the 2026 eclipse. The point of maximum eclipse will occur just off Iceland’s west coast, giving viewers up to 2 minutes and 18 seconds of totality—longer than Spain or Portugal. Add in low light pollution and Iceland’s wide-open landscapes, and it’s hard to imagine a more dramatic setting.
💸 The Cost of Going Alone
Most commercial eclipse tours to Iceland will cost $3,000–$6,000 per person (not including flights). Add in the reality that housing is already selling out, rental cars will be scarce, and traffic will be intense, and it’s clear that planning this trip solo comes with stress and expense.
🧭 Why Compass?
Compass + Trinity are creating a different kind of experience. With our years of experience leading service-learning trips in Iceland, we know the country, its rhythms, and its people. We’ll take care of logistics, housing, meals, and service partnerships—so you can focus on reflection, connection, and wonder. You won’t just see the eclipse; you’ll experience it in the context of community, purpose, and shared faith exploration.
This is more than a trip to check off your bucket list. It’s a journey to encounter creation, serve alongside local partners, and return home transformed.

What You’ll Do
🌍 Explore Iceland
Wander Reykjavík’s streets, from its colorful murals to historic landmarks. Journey along the South Coast, where waterfalls thunder, glaciers shimmer, and black sand beaches stretch for miles.
🌞 Chase the Eclipse
On August 12, we’ll gather for a once-in-a-lifetime moment: the solar eclipse. The sky will darken, stars will emerge, and for one breathtaking minute, the sun will be hidden. Together we’ll stand in awe of creation.
🤝 Serve with Purpose
For three days, we’ll live and work alongside Worldwide Friends Iceland, joining projects like tree planting, beach clean-ups, and climate education workshops. These efforts connect us to Iceland’s communities and contribute to global environmental stewardship.
🍲 Share Life Together
In Reykjavík, meals will be enjoyed at local cafés and restaurants. Later, in our service house, we’ll cook, bake bread, and clean together—finding joy in the sacred practice of daily community.
