Journey not only across the Atlantic —but inward. Join Merrimack’s SEND program in a mission-rooted experience that invites you to serve with compassion, steward creation, and discern deeper alignment with positive mattering to our world. During this immersive week, you’ll engage in meaningful work, co-build authentic community, and reflect on how your journey is part of a greater call to justice and hope.

🧳 What's Included The cost includes roundtrip airfare, lodging, meals, in-country transportation, programming, and travel insurance. We take care of the logistics—so you can focus on presence, reflection, and intentional positive action.

Overview
Iceland is a land of glaciers, volcanic landscapes, and dramatic coastlines — but it’s also a place where climate change and environmental stewardship are front and center. During your SEND Alternative Break, you’ll work with Icelandic partners on hands-on environmental projects that make a real impact, from reforestation efforts to coastal clean-up.
This experience is designed to stretch you: building confidence, deepening your understanding of environmental justice, and helping you consider what it means to live with purpose in today’s world.
What You’ll Do
✔️ Serve with local nonprofits focused on either compassion ministry or environmental sustainability
✔️ Learn from Icelandic leaders and international volunteers about justice-centered responses to local challenges
✔️ Explore Iceland’s dramatic landscapes—from waterfalls and black sand beaches to volcanic cliffs and fjords
✔️ Engage in daily reflection, journaling, and community conversation
✔️ Discern how your gifts and passions align to a life of service and mattering
How To Join
Students apply first to the Merrimack SEND program, and Merrimack leadership will assign final trip placements. Once placed with Compass Path, here’s how to move forward:
Complete the Compass registration form (below).
Attend an Informational Interview on December 2 (in person, with follow-up via Zoom if needed).
Pay your $300 deposit and begin fundraising toward the team’s total goal.
Join team meetings throughout the spring semester for preparation, reflection, team building, and trip logistics. Exact dates and times are to be determined.
