Overview
This Alternative Break experience combines hands-on service with immersive environmental learning. Throughout the week, you’ll participate in environmental projects, engage with international volunteers, and take time to reflect on what it means to live responsibly and globally. You’ll explore how Iceland is leading efforts in conservation, sustainability, and climate resilience. You’ll also get to experience Iceland’s natural wonders and unique culture—from geothermal springs to colorful city streets.
This trip is about presence, learning, and contribution—not just tourism. You’ll come back with a fuller sense of the world and your place in it.
What You’ll Do
✔️ Learn from Icelandic and international leaders about the country’s climate challenges and how local communities are responding with creativity and resilience
✔️ Explore Reykjavík and its surrounding regions—from geothermal fields and volcanic cliffs to the vibrant street art and history of Iceland’s capital city
✔️ Live and serve in community, sharing meals, stories, and a shared purpose with your fellow classmates
✔️ Reflect on your role in the world—through guided conversation and journaling, you’ll consider what ethical, thoughtful service and global citizenship can look like

Once confirmed by Northeastern staff, confirm your spot with Compass and submit your confirmation forms within 7 days
