What is Compass?

What is Compass?

Compass empowers and equips students for their role in God’s story through experiential community, redemptive theology, and justice-oriented service.

All Compass programs focus on identity-formation through incredible experiences. Whether in the mountains, classroom, or across the world, our passion is to help you create a pathway to yours.

Our summer and year-round programs feature three incredible expeditions designed to challenge you to grow deeper in your walk with Christ:

WILDERNESS EXPEDITION

You’ll embark on an outdoor adventure with the La Vida Adirondack Program in the mountains of New York. The wilderness expedition will foster a deeper relationship with God and with fellow Compass students.

THEOLOGICAL EXPEDITION

You’ll dive into deep theological questions through conversation with world-renowned college and seminary professors. Through Christian community and the discussion of key theological concepts, this week provides the information and setting to equip students with a critical, informed, and Biblical worldview.

MINISTRY EXPEDITION

This phase challenges you to apply what you’ve learned and become missional Christ-followers, working to meet local ministry needs through personal relationships with our in-country partners. In years past, Compass students have gone to Costa Rica, Mexico, Nicaragua. Currently we partner with churches and ministry leaders in Iceland.

Several models, one mission

SUMMER COMPASS

The Summer version of the program is the original model.  We invite individual students from all over to come together for one life-changing summer.  It packs a powerful punch for students to meet other people their age from all over the country and around the world as well as from other Christian traditions.  It is a high intense three weeks that challenges students, but is also filled with a lot of fun. For the summer model, we have mentors to guide students through the program. This year, the program will be happening from July 4-25, 2023.

If you are an individual student looking to participate in Compass, this is the option for you!

COMPASS FOR GROUPS

The recently launched Compass year-long program is designed specifically for a group to journey together through all the elements of Compass spread out over the course of the year. (This could be a youth group, school group, community group etc.) In the year-long program, we are essentially handling all the logistics, planning, and administrative work so that your leaders can focus on building relationships with your students while you grow together as a group.

If you are a leader of, or part of a group looking to participate in Compass together, this is the option for you!

SPRING BREAK

For a week each winter, we invite students into our unique missions partnership in Iceland. Our spring break trip for college students will take you to the front line of church partnerships in Reykjavik. You’ll join hands with Icelanders working in the Salvation Army in the northernmost capital of the world.
